Mia Yoko in Project See & B Issue 02 - It’s a Sign!

Introducing Mia Yoko one of the talented WA-based creatives featured in Project See & B Issue 02: It’s a Sign!

Mia Yoko (she/her) is a creative who struggled to discover her art style for a long time. Prim and proper in daily life, art is where she can express her fever dream creativity and playful worldview. Her creative practice is informed by her appreciation of artistry in any form: design, fashion, music, and art.

📸 Pictured is her featured piece:

“I have always waited for a sign. Something that will give me permission to start enjoying life, and to forgive myself for having fun. It would have to be something significant; perhaps a letter in the mail, with “IT’S A SIGN” typed out in bold font. That letter never came. At the same time, I also realised that anything (anything at all) could be a sign for a better worldview.

This artwork considers a seemingly mundane strawberry flower as a sign. Although unassuming to say the least, with the right mindset, this flower can be anything. It can be fresh strawberries, or trendy strawberry matchas, or songs about strawberries. With a simple change in perspective, we can make something as unassuming as this flower into a sign for better days.”
