Katharine Whitehead in Project See & B Issue 02 - It’s a Sign!
Introducing Katharine Whitehead one of the talented WA-based creatives featured in Project See & B Issue 02: It’s a Sign!
Katharine Whitehead (she/her) is an 18-year-old queer poet based in Perth, originally from the Pilbara. Inspired by her upbringing in Port Hedland and the shift of moving to Perth, she explores the meaning of finding hope in absence and change. Katharine believes that finding joy in our routines and beauty in the mundane is precious, and she writes poetry to provide new perspectives on light, love, and loss.
📸 Pictured is her featured piece:
“Every positive interaction with the people we love fills us with hope for the future, and we often feel that it’s a sign that we were so lucky to meet them at the right time and place for this love to eventuate. When we first fall in love, our perspective on the world changes to match a new schedule, and to accommodate someone new into our lives. During this time, we are looking for signs to indicate that this is a safe space for us to put our trust in, and when it doesn’t work out we look for signs it might return.
This piece explores the safe space I create as I get excited for the future after that person I love very deeply leaves. These signs that our loved ones once use to communicate their love for us often begins to hold us back from moving on, and navigating a new life in their absence is all consuming and beautiful.”
